[Speak Argentinian Spanish] - Announcing the Newsletter!
I have something exciting to share with you!
Che! Cómo andas?
Welcome to the first issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.
In case you forgot, you’re getting this because you signed up for the course waitlist on speakargentinianspanish.com. You’ll find a link at the bottom if you want to unsubscribe.
The course is underway but I wanted to try something else. Something that could help you with your journey today.
That’s why I’m starting this newsletter! It’s a weekly newsletter which I’ll send every Monday morning and it’ll have 5 things for you:
a new word
a piece about Argentinian culture
a new expression
a piece of content I recommend
an exercise for improving your Spanish
I think you’re going to absolutely love it. Without further ado, here’s the first edition!
📖 Palabra - copado
Think of it like cool or awesome. For me, I replaced genial with copado to start sounding more Argentinian (and it’s working!).
Sos muy copado!
Uy qué copado está ésto!
🧉 Cultura - mate
You’ve seen this before, yeah? It’s basically a tea that everyone drinks. It’s not exclusive to Argentina though but very very common. People drink it solo but oftentimes in groups as a social thing. When I lived in Argentina, it was common to go to a friend’s house, sit around a table, drink mate and talk.
🗨️ Expresión - ¿Cómo andas?
In case you don’t already know this, it’s equivalent to “¿Cómo estás?” For me, this is one of the first things I listen for when figuring out if someone is from Argentina 😂 Highly suggest using this instead of “¿Cómo estás?” to sound more Argentinian.
🔗 Contenido - Antes que Nadie
Antes Que Nadie is by far one of my favorite podcasts from Argentina. You’ll find it on YouTube on LUZU TV. It has four hosts - two guys and two girls - who all bring different types of energy to the show. I believe they’re all influencers too lol so you get a glimpse into that side of the culture.
💪🏼 Ejercicio - Word Web
If you feel like your vocabulary is that of a 10-year old, then this exercise is for you! Here’s what you do:
Pick an area of your home or life - I chose the fridge.
Write down words for that area - Pro tip: use speech to text on your phone.
Look up all those words in Spanish - SpanishDict works great.
Make flashcards - I recommend Anki.
I did this over the weekend because I didn’t know how to say flax seeds in Spanish when I was talking to my daughter (we put it in our smoothies) so I did this in about 20mins. The original idea came from a polyglot YouTuber.
Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄
Abrazo desde tu amigo,
- Joe
PS — I would love to know what you think about this newsletter! I’m obviously very excited about it, but I’m biased :)
Hit reply and tell me what you think (good or bad).
