Che! Dame los cinco #18
Welcome to the 18th issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.
Che! Cómo andas?
Welcome to the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.
For the new folks joining us, I send these 5 things for you every Monday morning:
a new word
a piece about Argentinian culture
a new expression
a piece of content I recommend
an exercise for improving your Spanish
📖 Palabra - factura
This word means “pastry” in Rioplatense Spanish. When I lived in Buenos Aires, I LOVED medialunas. Honestly, it's one of the things I miss the most.
My host family used to get them every Sunday. So good.
Vamos a comprar facturas para desayunar
🧉 Cultura - Facturas
I don't know about you but I have a major sweet-tooth. It is rare I go without dessert (when I can). In the baking world of Argentina, there are tons of great baked goods.
I was reading about them on the Venture Out Spanish blog which explain the different types of baked goods you'll find in an Argentinian bakery.
🗨️ Expresión - no hay drama
Funny expression, right? My good friend Tony used this in our chat the other day. The context was me apologizing to him for not sending a voice message like usual. His response?
Noy hay drama
Drop that in your next conversation when you want to say, "Don't worry about it” or “All good.”
🔗 Contenido - Facturas podcast episode
Sticking in line with our facturas from earlier, here is a podcast episode all about facturas! Enjoy it on Spotify.
💪🏼 Ejercicio - Order in Spanish at a bakery
I don't know where you live but in my city, there is a Mexican bakery. I've gone multiple times to get facturas and also tortillas. And when I go, I order in Spanish.
My challenge to use is to look for a bakery where they speak Spanish and use your Spanish! Don't be afraid! They'll appreciate you trying and help you :)
Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄
Abrazo de tu amigo,
- Joe
