Welcome to the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.
For the new folks joining us, I send these 4 things for you every Monday morning:
a new word
a new expression
a piece of content
an exercise for improving your Spanish
📖 Palabra - chusmear
To gossip. I can’t remember where I heard this…Probably from Entrelazados on Disney+.
Necesito amigas nueva con las que nos juntemos a merendar y chusmear (twitter).
Me encanta sentarme a tomar mates con mi hermana y mi mamá, no se cansan de chusmear (twitter).
🗨️ Expresión - correte de la puerta
Not a typical expression, but I had the subtitles on for a show I was watching and this is how someone said, “get away from the door!” because they were trying to bust it open.
My non-native instinct would be to say “alejate de la puerta" but I need to check with a native on that one. So I thought I’d share this one which was said by a native!
🔗 Contenido - Digital Nomad living in Argentina
This woman named Sarah popped up on my Instagram feed last week. She’s a digital nomad from the US living in Argentina. Her videos are in English, but it’s a great way to learn about Argentinian culture through the lens of an American.
Enjoy! Link: @ba.noma on Instagram
💪🏼 Ejercicio - Practice your stories
Don’t let the title of the video fool you, this is an AMAZING video of a girl from France sharing how she learned Norwegian. Click the link above to watch the 2min section where she shares a tip about telling stories.
Basically she would:
write a personal story in English
write it in Norwegian and have friend correct to be more native-like
also have native record audio telling the story
listen and learn by heart
Yes, memorizing it would be bad, but instead learn the pronunciation, the vocabulary, the rhythm and own the story. She said this was one of the best things she did.
Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄
Abrazo de tu amigo,
- Joe
