Che! Dame los cinco - #9

Welcome to the ninth issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

Che! Cómo andas?

Welcome to the [first] issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

For the new folks joining us, I send these 5 things for you every Monday morning:

  1. a new word

  2. a piece about Argentinian culture

  3. a new expression

  4. a piece of content I recommend

  5. an exercise for improving your Spanish

📖 Palabra - tranqui

Short for tranquilo, it means calm, relaxed or chill. Kinda fun to say too, ya know?

Todo tranqui por acá.
Quédate tranqui que no va a pasar nada.

🧉 Cultura - Bake Off Argentina

Have you heard of that Netflix show The Great British Bake Off? Well, they made an Argentinian version - all in Spanish - with people from Argentina.

And, you can watch 41 episodes for FREE on YouTube. But hey, I'm like you, I need to see the trailer of these kinds of things first. I got you:

🗨️ Expresión - ¿posta?

Another one that is just a joy to say, it means en serio or de verdad. Use it and you'll really start to feel Argentinian.

Posta te robaron??
Posta que la comida estaba horrible.

🔗 Contenido - #LUZUKids

You know what's really interesting? Hearing kids speak in another language. I think it's cause we're used to watching shows/content that is made by adults for adults.

But something about hearing kids speak is fascinating. Maybe it's because they mumble and speak fast and it feels more…unfiltered? I don't know.

But so LUZU TV has a segment called #LUZUKIDS and I think you might like it. Here's a link to a playlist:

💪🏼 Ejercicio - Join a Discord Community

I know, I know. It's obvious, right? But hey, you'd be surprised. A lot of people don't think to do this. But I want to be specific.

Don't just join any Discord community. Find one that natives would join in your area of interest. So for me, that's programming. For you, that might be history, or marketing.

There are two ways you can find them:

  1. On a server directory like this one

  2. Following “influencers” or content creators on YouTube/Twitter and seeing if they have communities to join
