Che! Dame los cinco #21

Welcome to the 21st issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

Che! Cómo andas?

Welcome to the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

For the new folks joining us, I send these 4 things for you every Monday morning:

  1. a new word

  2. a new expression

  3. a piece of content I recommend

  4. an exercise for improving your Spanish

📖 Palabra - weon

I’ve seen this a couple times in social media and finally remembered to look it up. It’s from Chile but can be used a couple of ways.

  1. to refer to a friend — Ya, weón, juntémonos después de la fiesta.

  2. to refer to a stranger — ¿Quién es ese weón? -Ese weón trabaja conmigo.

  3. to insult — ¡Qué weón! ¡No sabe cómo estacionar un auto!

🗨️ Expresión - Messirve

I learned this one from Twitter. It’s more a play on words because the expression is me sirve meaning something is useful to you. But if you add an “s” and combine, you get Messi(rve) like the Argentinian soccer player!

🔗 Contenido - Interview with Messi

This showed up on my YouTube feed today and I thought I’d share with you. It’s an interview with Messi and Migue Granados. I don’t know his backstory really well but I’ve seen him on YouTube a lot. Enjoy!

💪🏼 Ejercicio - Research Language Parents

The idea of a “language parent” is inspired by the fact that as babies, we learn language from our parents. We adopt their colloquialisms.

I first heard of it in the Refold roadmap here. The goal is to find someone like you with at least 100 hours of raw content. One example I found is an Argentinian streamer who is a programmer from Buenos Aires and in his early thirties.

Once you find one, reply to this list and share it with me! I want to write a blog post and create a list of options for folks 🙂

Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄

Abrazo de tu amigo,
- Joe

PS — Can you share this newsletter with a friend? We only need a couple more to hit 100!

In case you forgot, you’re getting this because you signed up on speakargentinianspanish.com.
