Che! Dame los cinco - #2

Che! Cómo andas?

Welcome to the second issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

In case you forgot, you’re getting this because you signed up on speakargentinianspanish.com.

For the new folks joining us, I send these 5 things for you every Monday morning:

  1. a new word

  2. a piece about Argentinian culture

  3. a new expression

  4. a piece of content I recommend

  5. an exercise for improving your Spanish

📖 Palabra - guarda

This word actually comes from Italian (guardare) and means “look” or “watch out”.

¡Guarda! ¡Te va a pisar un auto!
Guarda que a la noche, por esa zona, roban.

🧉 Cultura - Tini

Tini Stoessel is an actress and a singer from Argentina. She starred in a popular TV show on Disney+ called Violetta back in 2012. Now she is one of the most famous singers in the country and regularly has hits in the Top 50 on Spotify. Highly recommend watching Violetta or listening to her music to improve your listening skills.

🗨️ Expresión - ¡Buen día!

Also common in other countries in South America, you’ll often hear people say buen día as opposed to buenos días which is usually taught in school as a way to greet someone in the morning. Start using this and you’ll blend in in no time.

🔗 Contenido - Traé Alfajores

Traé Alfajores is a new podcast that came out last month from my friend Matias who is a Rioplatense Spanish teacher and the founder of Venture Out Spanish. I like this podcast because it’s aimed at Spanish learners and discusses different aspects of Argentine culture. And the episodes are less than 10mins. Oh and bonus, you can buy the transcripts to the episodes here.

💪🏼 Ejercicio - shadowing

If you’re at the upper-intermediate or advanced level, shadowing is a fantastic technique to practice. It’s basically imitating native speakers. It will help you improve your pronunciation and intonation to sound more natural. Here’s how to do it.

Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄

Abrazo desde tu amigo,
- Joe
