Che! Dame los cinco #19

Welcome to the 19th issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

Che! Cómo andas?

Welcome to the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

For the new folks joining us, I send these 5 things for you every Monday morning:

  1. a new word

  2. a piece about Argentinian culture

  3. a new expression

  4. a piece of content I recommend

  5. an exercise for improving your Spanish

📖 Palabra - bolazo

I can’t recall where I first heard this but it’s basically BS’ing. You might say a bolazo to get out of a tricky situation.

  • Le hicieron una pregunta en el examen y contestó con un bolazo.

  • Me creí el bolazo que me contaste el otro día!

🧉 Cultura - Buenos Aires for Nomads

A while back, I was scrolling on Twitter and remember seeing this thread on digital nomads and top cities.

Buenos Aires kept coming up. So I checked Nomad List and found out it’s actually a great place for digital nomads!

Of course it doesn’t have the most stable economy, but if you can work and earn remotely, it has a welcoming community of digital nomads.

🗨️ Expresión - No escupas la comida

You’ll have to laugh with me for a second. Not specific to Argentina but my daughter is going through food pickiness where she’ll take a bite then spit her food out 😂

So I asked my friend Tony, “how do you say ‘don’t spit out your food’ in Spanish?” You say:

No escupas la comida.

The more you know 🤣

🔗 Contenido - Tecnología Informal Podcast

As I’m getting close to the end of my job hunt, I started listening to this episode about negotiating.

I found this podcast thru Twitter a couple months back. I like this one because it’s a single host, he’s Argentinian and he talks about startups.

I hope you enjoy it!

💪🏼 Ejercicio - Visit your Local Library

My daughter has been reading a lot lately so we decided to pay our local library a visit. Turns out, they have a whole section for books in Spanish!

Even though I’m reading children’s books in Spanish with her, I’m still picking up new words!

So I encourage you to visit your local library and find a book or two in Spanish. Let me know if you do!

Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄

Abrazo de tu amigo,
- Joe
