Che! Cómo andas?

Welcome to the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

For the new folks joining us, I send these 5 things for you every Monday morning:

  1. a new word

  2. a piece about Argentinian culture

  3. a new expression

  4. a piece of content I recommend

  5. an exercise for improving your Spanish

📖 Palabra - ayuno intermitente

I was talking to my friend Tony about what we eat each day and he told me skips dinner! Crazy, right? But then I remembered the diet in English - intermittent fasting.

Well turns out to say that in Spanish, it’s called ayuno intermitente.

Now you know!

🧉 Cultura - La Nacion

This is one of the main newspapers in Argentina. And it’s a great place to learn about what’s happening in the country. Turns out, a lot of people are unhappy right now. Why?

Well people are really unhappy following the recent presidential election. And that has led to riots.

Go check out LA NACION to learn more.

🗨️ Expresión - no me digas hola

This isn’t specific to Argentina but I found it funny. It’s a whole website dedicated to telling people not to do something. So many times, I’ve met native Spanish speakers who start a conversation with a single message saying Hola.

🔗 Contenido - Indie vs Unicornio

To my dismay, there aren’t a lot of business-type content in the Rioplatense world. Or if it is there, it’s hard to find. But, I did find an interesting podcast and one of the hosts is Argentinian.

It’s cool because it’s a bootstrapper (someone who funded their own business) vs an investor (I think he’s Spanish).

So you get to practice hearing an Argentinian accent and a Spanish accent while listening to business topics. Win-win!

💪🏼 Ejercicio - Find a voice message buddy

As someone who struggles to find time to practice speaking with native speakers, I’ve found this method to work really well.

I found a friend online (Tony) who is from Argentina and willing to send voice messages during the week. So each day we switch languages i.e. Monday we chat in English, Tuesday in Spanish.

I’ve been doing this for over 6 months and it’s a great way to practice my Spanish with native speaker with a busy schedule.

Find a friend online and give it at try!

Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄

Abrazo de tu amigo,
- Joe
