Welcome to the 12th issue of the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.
For the new folks joining us, I send these 5 things for you every Monday morning:
a new word
a piece about Argentinian culture
a new expression
a piece of content I recommend
an exercise for improving your Spanish
📖 Palabra - yendo
I don't know why, but this word looks funny, doesn't it? I saw it on Twitter and thought, "wait that's like going, right?" Kinda.
It's like "on the way" in that it means you'll arrive somewhere soon.
Estoy yendo a la cancha.
Twitter example
🧉 Cultura - Bariloche
I have never been there myself but it's on my lists of places to visit the next time I go to Argentina. Why? It's very outdoorsy. There's skiing in the winter, a big beautiful lake, hiking and mountaineering and it's looks like a charming town.
Here's a YouTube short with the best things to do there.
🗨️ Expresión - me viene de lujo
I was talking to a friend on Discord who said this and I didn't know what it meant. So I asked my friend Tony.
"it's kinda like convenient"
Here's the full sentence my friend used it in:
quiero pasar a avanzado iba a meterme en un curso en Cambly con nativos para pasar a c1. si eres profesor en cambly me viene de lujo.
🔗 Contenido - Disney dubs in Rioplatense
Apparently once upon a time, Disney explored doing "Argentinian" dubs for some of their movies in the past— Chicken Little, Ratatouille, The Incredibles and Cars to name a few.
So if you have Disney+, you can watch these and you'll hear a bit of a Rioplatense accent.

💪🏼 Ejercicio - Chorusing
In the past, I shared shadowing as a technique to improve your accent. However, it's super difficult, right? Good news. Chrousing is similar but much easier.
Here's an 11-min video explaining what it is.
After you watch that, try using it on a video like this one.
Thanks for reading! Espero que disfrutes la semana 😄
Abrazo de tu amigo,
- Joe
