Che! Dame los cinco

Che! Cómo andas?

Welcome to the “Che! Dame los cinco” newsletter.

For the new folks joining us, I send these 4 things for you every Monday morning:

  1. a new word

  2. a new expression

  3. a piece of content

  4. an exercise for improving your Spanish

📖 Palabra - caprichoso

Similar to the word in English, capricious. For me the biggest “click” was seeing this word associated with unpredictable or likely to change (fickle).

Here are a couple examples:

¡Que nene caprichoso!, se largo a llorar en el medio del supermercado por un autito que quería.
no hay nada más caprichoso que yo comprando cositas pa mí

🗨️ Expresión - sacar la ficha

This is a tricky one. I can’t remember where I heard it, but finally figured out what it means: descubrir o entender algo acerca de una persona o una situación.

Here is an example:

Sandra siempre parece muy reservada, pero anoche, después de hablar un rato con ella, saqué la ficha de que está pasando por un momento difícil.

Have you heard of Dreaming Spanish? It’s popular in the Refold Spanish community. A lot of folks use it when they’re first starting out because the videos apply the comprehensible input philosophy.

Well, turns out, one of their teachers is Argentinian! So if you filter for her, you’ll get videos from Beginner → Advanced and hear a Rioplatense accent. This is awesome, especially if you’re at a more beginner stage.

💪🏼 Ejercicio - Spanish or English

Okay not a true exercise, but I’d like to know if I should switch this newsletter to Spanish next year or keep it in English? Vote by clicking these links below

(*fyi: these just link to my site, but I’ll see clicks and use that to see what got the most votes)
